  • No. of Pages/Datapoints: 90
  • Report Coverage: 2024 - 2030

Overview

The Dubai beer and pub beer market is strongly influenced by strict federal and local regulations about the sale, distribution, and consumption of alcoholic beverages, including beer. Nevertheless, the relaxation of alcohol laws in the UAE, premiumization of alcohol, deductions in alcohol taxes, and promotional offers & discounts are encouraging the consumption of alcohol. Introducing major beer festivals has also contributed to the popularity and consumption of beer in Dubai.

A massive tourist & expat population drives the consumption of beer in Dubai. A growing number of restaurants and pubs in the city are also introducing flavored and low-calorie beer to cater to a wider, more health-conscious audience. The government’s initiatives are also further assisting in promoting tourism in the region. For instance, in January 2023, Dubai Municipality announced that it has temporarily scrapped its 30% tax on alcohol for a year to attract tourists and expats. This is bound to benefit the beer and pub beer market in the region.

Dubai Beer & Pub Beer Consumer Behavior Analysis

Our study observed that a majority of the visitors in Dubai, regardless of bleisure or tourism, fall within the age group of 25 to 40 years, as compared to the dominance of the 35 - 50 years age group in the previous decade.

UAE observed an average alcohol consumption of 3.85 liters per annum as of 2021, with males significantly exceeding the average, with a consumption rate of nearly 5 liters per annum. The city ended 30% taxes on alcohol sales in January 2023, which is expected to attract tourists, especially women drinkers, boosting pub beer sales. With increased tourism, women prefer beer in pubs and bars.

Premiumization has led to a growth in alcohol consumption in Dubai. With deductions in alcohol taxes and offers like ‘buy one and get one free’ and happy hours in pubs are encouraging consumers to consume more alcohol. With UAE relaxing alcohol laws, the popularity of beer rose in Dubai in 2023. Most of the liquor consumption is observed by tourists in the city. Dubai also organizes some of the major beer fests in the world. Infrastructural developments and the increasing number of expats are giving rise to alcohol consumption.
