Sensors was the largest segment with a revenue share of 77.76% in 2023. Horizon Databook has segmented the South Korea water quality monitoring systems market based on sensors, data acquisition systems, data analysis and visualization tools covering the revenue growth of each sub-segment from 2017 to 2030.
The South Korean government’s commitment to protecting water resources has led to significant investments in advanced monitoring technologies. South Korean agriculture is predominantly focused on rice paddy farming, which consumes a substantial amount of water.
However, the country’s climate and topography are not naturally conducive to securing water resources. With 61 percent of the annual rainfall occurring during the summer and 70 percent of the country characterized by mountainous terrain with steep slopes, water management is challenging. To address this, over 17,000 reservoirs have been constructed nationwide.
These reservoirs provide flood and drought protection, serve as recreational spaces, and help maintain river flow. The Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC) has installed an extensive network of Water Quality Monitoring Systems (WQMS) in these reservoirs for real-time monitoring of the inflow of pollutants and algae blooms.
