The government has been collaborating with market players to expand the country’s hydrogen refueling station network in order to promote hydrogen fueled vehicles. In 2014, six participants of Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) including Shell, Linde, Total, Air Liquide, OMV, and Daimler established a joint venture known as H2 MOBILITY to enhance the pace of establishment of hydrogen fueling stations across Germany.
The joint venture was aimed at setting up around 400 hydrogen fueling stations in Germany based on the increase in the number of fuel cell vehicles on road. The initial goal was to establish 100 hydrogen fueling stations in conurbations such as Nuremberg, Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Rhine-Ruhr by the end of 2019.
