With a new name and a big funding up its sleeves, French self-service bike company Fifteen is adding on to the list of e-bike players that have raised big money in March 2022, owing to the mobility and ridesharing boom in Europe. The newly rechristened Parisian startup Fifteen (formed of French mobility companies Smoove and Zoov) raised 40 million euros in funding.
The round was led by Eiffel Essential and 2050, with the participation of investors like Mobivia, Daphni, CDC, C4 Ventures, BNP Paribas Development, and Eric Carrel. Looking to encourage off-peak tourism, a 240km off-road loop was launched in September 2021, with the challenging ride starting and ending in Penzance, U.K.; the ride is expected to take most cyclists three or four days to complete. The new course is an initiative by Cycling UK, which campaigns for more cycle trails, cleaner air, and safer, traffic-free routes.
The charity is also behind the North Downs Way cycle path, the 355km King Alfred’s Way—a circular route that starts and finishes in Winchester, and the 1,288km Great North Trail, which begins in the Peak District and ends in John o’ Groats or Cape Wrath in the north of Scotland. This growing hype of cycling—both as a leisure activity and as a mode of transport—is leading to the demand for more relevant and appropriate biking apparel and accessories.
